The fuel had reached <strong>$4.56 on May 21<\/strong>, before beginning several weeks of declines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You might be interested in: <\/strong><a>http:\/\/Trump says he is following the situation in Venezuela &#8220;with great interest&#8221; and does not want &#8220;its oil&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The national historical record stands at $5.01 per gallon, recorded in June 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The rise began after the U.S. and Israel attacked Iran at the end of February and the conflict restricted oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic route through which nearly a quarter of the world&#8217;s seaborne traded oil passed in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The International Energy Agency (IEA) described the near-total blockade of Hormuz in March as the largest supply disruption in the history of the global oil market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trend began to reverse after Washington and Tehran reached an initial agreement in June to halt hostilities and gradually reopen the strait. Goldman Sachs maintained at the time that the pact would allow for further drops in crude oil, although it considered an immediate return to pre-war levels unlikely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Trump administration has also resorted to emergency reserves to offset supply disruptions and stabilize the oil market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Department of Energy authorized the release of 172 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, as part of an operation coordinated by the 32 members of the IEA to put 400 million barrels on the market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trump, however, considers the drop at the pumps insufficient and has expressed his frustration that the decline in oil prices has not been passed on to consumers with the same speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The president demanded this week that gas sellers lower their prices &#8220;immediately&#8221; and urged them to bring them closer to $2.50 per gallon.
