Miami (USA).- <\/em><\/strong>The mayor of the U.S. city of Miami, Eileen Higgins, highlighted this Thursday the leadership of the City’s Fire and Rescue Department in saving the Venezuelan Hern\u00e1n Gil, who spent eight days under the rubble after the earthquakes that shook Venezuela a week ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Higgins indicated in a statement that Miami firefighters lead the USAR Florida Task Force 2 (FL-TF2), a group of fire departments from South Florida that “worked tirelessly for 53 hours, side by side with international brigades” to save Gil from the ruins of a building in La Guaira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday, all of Miami has reason to feel proud,\u201d the mayor noted. \u201cThe U.S. contingent, led by the brave men and women of Miami Fire<\/a> and Rescue, joined rescue teams from around the world in Venezuela with a shared mission: to save a life,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gil had been trapped in the security booth of the building located in the town of Catia La Mar, where he had been working since the 7.2 and 7.5 magnitude earthquakes occurred on June 24th.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rescue efforts began at 10:00 local time (14:00 GMT) on Monday, and since then, the group of about 100 rescuers, including Americans, as well as Chileans, Portuguese, Costa Ricans, and Salvadorans, remained in constant communication with him, hydrating him and providing medication.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
