NEW YORK.<\/strong>\u2013 The Office of the Commissioner of Major League Baseball announced this Thursday the disciplinary sanctions resulting from the altercation that caused the benches to clear during last Tuesday’s game between the Boston Red Sox and the Washington Nationals at Fenway Park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MLB Senior Vice President of On-Field Operations, Michael Hill, announced that Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli and Red Sox Venezuelan first baseman Willson Contreras have each been suspended for seven games for their roles in the incident that occurred in the fourth inning of the game.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Additionally, right-hander Miles Mikolas, of Washington, received a five-game suspension, while Boston outfielder Nate Eaton was sanctioned with three games. All four players were also fined undisclosed amounts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The suspensions will take effect this Friday, when Boston visits the Los Angeles Angels and Washington hosts the Pittsburgh Pirates, provided the players do not file an appeal. If they do, the sanctions will be held in abeyance until the process concludes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The confrontation began when Cavalli struck out Contreras and, after exchanging words with the Venezuelan, an altercation occurred that forced both benches to clear onto the field.
