A 27-year-old woman<\/strong> was captured in Comayagua, accused of having planned and faked her own kidnapping to obtain USD 10,000<\/strong>, about 260,000 lempiras at the current exchange rate, from her relatives to pay off personal debts. The arrest warrant was issued on June 16, 2026, following a police investigation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>The operation took place in the Suyapa neighborhood, in the department of Comayagua<\/strong>, where investigators located the suspect in compliance with an arrest warrant issued by the Criminal Court of the Judicial Section of Comayagua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrest was carried out by agents of the Police Investigation Directorate (DPI)<\/strong>, through the National Anti-Kidnapping Unit (UNAS), after several months of proceedings to reconstruct what happened and gather evidence for the case.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

How the investigation began<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The investigation dates back to November 2025<\/strong>, when the young woman’s disappearance caused concern among her relatives and activated the search protocols of the authorities specialized in crimes against personal liberty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the complaint filed at the time, the woman left a nightclub and was heading towards her home when, allegedly, she was intercepted by several people who deprived her of her liberty.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Hours later, relatives began receiving information related to the alleged kidnapping, in which a payment of USD 10,000<\/strong> was demanded to guarantee the victim’s release. Intelligence investigations detected inconsistencies in the initial account and reconstructed communications and movements until it was established that the young person was seeking to obtain money from relatives to settle personal financial commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the proceedings progressed, the investigators found contradictions between the version initially presented and the evidence obtained<\/strong> through specialized intelligence and criminal investigation techniques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The analysis of communications, the reconstruction of movements, and other elements collected during the investigation led the agents to a different conclusion than the one proposed in the initial complaint.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigative files<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the file prepared by the National Anti-Kidnapping Unit<\/strong>, the woman had carefully organized the disappearance to make her relatives believe she was being held against her will and thus pressure them to hand over the requested money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigations indicate that the primary objective was not to finance illicit activities of third parties, but to obtain economic resources to resolve personal financial commitments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the aspects that the investigators noted was that, during the alleged kidnapping, the woman was located safe and sound<\/strong> by police officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The authorities also confirmed that the payment of the demanded ransom was never finalized,<\/strong> because the requested money was not delivered by the family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite this, the investigation continued for several months to fully clarify the facts and determine whether a criminal structure really existed behind the complaint or if everything had been the product of a simulation.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proceedings allowed strengthening the file with sufficient evidence for the case to be referred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office<\/strong> and subsequently presented before the competent jurisdictional body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Judicial process<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once the investigations were concluded, the Criminal Court of the Judicial Section of Comayagua issued, on June 16, 2026<\/strong>, an arrest warrant against the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The woman is accused of the crime of simulation of a non-existent offense<\/strong>, a criminal category that punishes those who report false facts or generate judicial and police actions through information that does not correspond to reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the issuance of the judicial warrant, specialized DPI<\/strong> teams carried out location efforts until they successfully captured the individual in the city where they reside. The investigation into the alleged kidnapping began in November 2025, following the report of the young woman’s disappearance in Comayagua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following her arrest, the suspect was placed at the disposal of the judicial authorities to continue the corresponding legal process.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
