Santo Domingo, D.R.<\/strong>\u2013 The Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Pe\u00f1a, led the opening of the working sessions of the Americas Investment Forum 2026<\/strong>, <\/a>this Thursday, where she highlighted that macroeconomic stability, legal certainty, and the coordination between the public and private sectors have allowed the Dominican Republic to consolidate itself as one of the most reliable and competitive investment destinations in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn an international context marked by uncertainty, investors seek stable economies, reliable institutions, clear rules, and countries capable of offering not only opportunities, but also confidence. And that is precisely the value proposition that the Dominican Republic offers today,\u201d stated the official, who also serves as president of the Investment Promotion Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that sense, he indicated that the country reached for the first time more than US$5 billion in foreign direct investment<\/strong> in a single year, while in the first quarter of 2026 it recorded US$1,536.7 million<\/strong>, the highest figure for that period, with projections to close the year at around US$5.2 billion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pe\u00f1a highlighted that these results reflect the sustained confidence of investors in the country and in the stability of its economic environment, as a result of the policies promoted by the Government led by President Luis Abinader<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, he pointed out that foreign investment not only impacts macroeconomic figures, but also translates into employment and development opportunities for Dominican families, explaining that for every 1% growth in foreign direct investment, employment increases by 0.84%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vice president also highlighted the consolidation of the Dominican Republic as a strategic logistics hub for the Caribbean and Central America<\/strong>, supported by an infrastructure network that includes 16 seaports, eight international airports, and projects such as the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone, aimed at strengthening trade and investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, he stated that the Government continues to promote improvements in the investment climate through the simplification of processes, institutional modernization, and a legal framework that provides greater security to investors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Raquel Pe\u00f1a maintained that Latin America has a historic opportunity to consolidate itself as a reliable destination amidst global volatility, which is why she called for strengthening regional cooperation to attract higher-quality investments and foster sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her part, the Executive Director of the Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana), Biviana Riveiro, highlighted that the region is going through a key moment to redefine its role in the global economy, promoting policies that strengthen competitiveness and economic resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Riveiro pointed out that the Dominican Republic is in a favorable position to take advantage of these opportunities, thanks to its economic stability, strategic location, logistical connectivity, and trade openness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that the country has accumulated more than US$35 billion in foreign direct investment over the last decade<\/strong> and has exceeded US$4 billion annually<\/strong> in this area for four consecutive years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA), Mohamed Mulla, stated that the global debate on investment has evolved towards the need to attract strategic and sustainable capital, aligned with the development goals of each nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, he highlighted the importance of having solid institutions, predictable regulatory frameworks, and effective partnerships between the public and private sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the first vice president of Costa Rica, Francisco Gamboa, highlighted the importance of regional integration and pointed out that current competition is not between countries, but between regions capable of generating value, innovation, and sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
