Caracas.-<\/em><\/strong> Hern\u00e1n Gil, a survivor of the double earthquake in Venezuela<\/a>, is in “stable” condition at the hospital after being rescued on Thursday, following eight days trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in the coastal state of La Guaira, the area most devastated by the earthquakes on June 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He is stable and had breakfast,”<\/em><\/strong> a worker at the Hospital de Cl\u00ednica Caracas, in the west of the capital city which is neighboring La Guaira, indicated to EFE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gil was rescued on Thursday morning in a rescue operation that lasted almost 72 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 43-year-old man arrived at the medical center around 10:00 local time (14:00 GMT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to hospital staff, doctors performed a CT scan on Thursday that showed a left clavicle dislocation, small bands of atelectasis, a left parietal subgaleal hematoma, and mild inflammatory ethmoid and frontal sinusitis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, they said that he was completely healthy and conscious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gil had been trapped in the security booth of the building located in the town of Catia La Mar where he worked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rescue began at 10:00 local time (14:00 GMT) on Monday, and since then, a group of 100 rescuers, including Chileans, Americans, Portuguese, Costa Ricans, and Salvadorans, has been in constant communication with him, hydrating him and providing him with medication.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A spokesperson for the Costa Rican Red Cross explained to EFE that the security guard was in an underground passage in a security booth with 140 tons of rubble on top of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
