Sports desk (EFE).- Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) was the fastest this Friday in the only free practice session for the British Grand Prix, the ninth of the Formula One World Championship<\/a>, which is being held at the Silverstone circuit (England), where Spaniards Carlos Sainz (Williams) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin) set the fifteenth and twentieth fastest times, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the best of his 32 laps, Hamilton covered the 5,891 meters of the legendary English circuit\u2014which hosted the very first F1 race in history in 1950\u2014in one minute, 29 seconds, and 260 thousandths, 213 less than the Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes), the championship leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other Ferrari, that of the Monegasque Charles Leclerc, set the third fastest time of the session\u2014like the previous ones, on the soft tire\u2014six tenths behind his English teammate, in the only practice session of the fourth of the six sprint format weekends of the year, in which the Argentine Franco Colapinto (Alpine) set the eleventh fastest time, on the fastest of his 28 laps and with the medium tires, one second and seven tenths behind Hamilton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sainz invested, in the best of his 33 laps, with the soft tires, two seconds and four tenths behind Sir Lewis, from whom the two-time world champion from Asturias remained, with the medium tire, in the fastest of his 25 laps, three seconds and seven tenths behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other Mercedes, that of the Englishman George Russell \u2014winner last Sunday in Austria\u2014 set the fourth fastest time, 678 thousandths behind his compatriot, from whom the Australian Oscar Piastri was 887 thousandths off, with the fifth fastest time, who spun after losing control of his McLaren at Becketts, the thirteenth of the 18 corners at Silverstone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mexican Sergio P\u00e9rez (Cadillac), who repeated the track 23 times, placed nineteenth on the timesheet, two seconds and nine tenths behind Hamilton, in a session with no other noteworthy incidents, which concluded with 22 degrees Celsius ambient temperature, 42 on the asphalt; and in which the quadruple Dutch world champion Max Verstappen (Red Bull) set the sixth fastest time -980 thousandths behind- and the Englishman Lando Norris (McLaren), winner a year ago at Silverstone, the seventh, just over a second behind his compatriot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
