{"id":513280,"date":"2026-07-04T11:56:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-04T15:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/antonelli-wins-the-british-grand-prix-sprint-and-extends-his-world-championship-lead\/"},"modified":"2026-07-04T11:56:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-04T15:56:09","slug":"antonelli-wins-the-british-grand-prix-sprint-and-extends-his-world-championship-lead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/motorsport\/antonelli-wins-the-british-grand-prix-sprint-and-extends-his-world-championship-lead\/","title":{"rendered":"Antonelli wins the British Grand Prix sprint and extends his World Championship lead"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SILVERSTONE, England (EFE).<\/strong> Italian <strong>Andrea Kimi Antonelli<\/strong> (Mercedes) won the sprint race of the British Grand Prix this Saturday, the ninth round of the Formula One World Championship, held at the Silverstone circuit, thus consolidating his lead in the drivers&#8217; standings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Antonelli, who started from the second position on the grid, took the lead on the eighth of the 17 laps by overtaking the Briton <strong>Lewis Hamilton<\/strong> (Ferrari), a seven-time world champion, and maintained the advantage until crossing the finish line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hamilton finished in second position, while his compatriot <strong>Lando Norris<\/strong> (McLaren) completed the podium by finishing third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fellow Briton <strong>George Russell<\/strong> (Mercedes) took fourth place, followed by Monegasque <strong>Charles Leclerc<\/strong> (Ferrari) and Dutchman <strong>Max Verstappen<\/strong> (Red Bull), who finished sixth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The final points of the sprint race went to the Australian <strong>Oscar Piastri<\/strong> (McLaren), seventh, and the New Zealander <strong>Liam Lawson<\/strong> (RB), eighth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding the Spanish-speaking drivers, the Spaniards <strong>Carlos Sainz<\/strong> (Williams) and <strong>Fernando Alonso<\/strong> (Aston Martin) finished in 17th and 20th positions, respectively. The Argentine <strong>Franco Colapinto<\/strong> (Alpine) crossed the finish line in twelfth place, while the Mexican <strong>Sergio P\u00e9rez<\/strong> (Cadillac) finished twenty-second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this victory, the fourth in the six sprint races scheduled for the season, Antonelli increased his lead at the top of the championship with <strong>179 points<\/strong>, 43 more than George Russell and 47 ahead of Lewis Hamilton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The British Grand Prix activity will continue this Saturday with the qualifying session that will define the starting grid for Sunday&#8217;s main race, scheduled for 52 laps over a total distance of 306.2 kilometers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SILVERSTONE, England (EFE).
