{"id":513357,"date":"2026-07-06T07:41:34","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T11:41:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/the-un-proposes-a-global-pact-to-protect-children-from-artificial-intelligence\/"},"modified":"2026-07-06T07:41:34","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T11:41:34","slug":"the-un-proposes-a-global-pact-to-protect-children-from-artificial-intelligence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/international\/the-un-proposes-a-global-pact-to-protect-children-from-artificial-intelligence\/","title":{"rendered":"The UN proposes a global pact to protect children from artificial intelligence"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Geneva.-<\/em><\/strong> UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres proposed an international pact on Monday to protect children from the risks of artificial intelligence (AI) and warned that no child should become &#8220;a guinea pig for unregulated AI.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the opening of the first Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance, Guterres proposed a pact based on three principles: that companies demonstrate that their systems are safe for minors before making them available, zero tolerance for the generation of child sexual abuse imagery through AI, and that systems redirect children to human help when they detect signs of distress or risk of self-harm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Read more: <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/internacionales\/onu-declara-hambruna-en-gaza\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"520514\">UN officially declares famine situation in the Gaza Strip<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting opened today by Guterres in Geneva is part of the strategy approved in the 2024 Global Digital Compact to promote international governance of this technology, currently dominated by a small group of companies, practically all American, although with some Chinese ones advancing rapidly in this field, a development that increases the global technological gap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The secretary-general warned that the development of AI is advancing at a pace that exceeds the capacity of governments and institutions to regulate it, and went so far as to say that the world is experiencing &#8220;an experiment&#8221; without planning or consent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He recalled that the internet took fifteen years to reach one billion users, while AI has achieved it in just two, and the most advanced systems are already writing code, acting on the internet, and making decisions with increasingly less human supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, the United Nations official presented the Environmental Transparency Initiative on AI to urge large technology companies to publish the full environmental impact of their systems, including their carbon emissions and their water and land consumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They are also asked to power all their data centers with renewable energy before 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As indicated, these facilities already consume more electricity than most countries and, by 2030, could use more energy than all but five states in the world and as much water as the 1.3 billion inhabitants of sub-Saharan Africa would need in a year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Secretary-General also announced that he will present to the General Assembly a proposal to create a Global Fund for Artificial Intelligence, aimed at financing capabilities, data, and computing infrastructure in developing countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Global Dialogue on Artificial Intelligence Governance brings together the 193 United Nations Member States in Geneva and is held following the publication of the first report of the Independent International Scientific Panel on AI.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Geneva.- UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres proposed an international pact on Monday to protect children from the risks of artificial intelligence (AI) and warned that no child should become &#8220;a guinea pig for unregulated AI.&#8221;
