Santo Domingo.<\/strong>\u2013 The Second Collegiate Court of the National District <\/a>will resume the hearing of the so-called Medusa case this Monday, in a session where the judges must rule on the motions presented by the defense teams of the former Attorney General of the Republic, Jean Alain Rodr\u00edguez, and the other defendants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hearing is set for 9:00 in the morning and will be decisive in determining whether the process can move forward to the stage of hearing the formal accusation presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since mid-February, the defendants’ lawyers have filed various requests and objections, including the exclusion of evidence, challenges to the accusatory file, and arguments related to alleged procedural irregularities. These incidents have prevented the prosecuting body from beginning the full reading of the indictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Public Ministry maintains that the defendants were part of a corruption structure that operated from the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic and that allegedly caused an economic loss to the State of more than RD$6 billion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Due to these facts, the prosecuting body attributes to the defendants crimes such as criminal association, coalition of officials, prevarication, fraud against the State, embezzlement, bribery, money laundering, and violations of the Law on High-Tech Crimes and Offenses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court’s decision on the motions will be key to defining the course of the judicial process and establishing whether the Public Prosecutor’s Office will be able to continue with the presentation of its case against those involved in Operation Medusa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
