Damascus.- <\/strong>At least 18 people<\/a>, including four police officers, were injured this Tuesday in two explosions recorded near the Ministry of Tourism in central Damascus, coinciding with the official visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to the Syrian capital.

The Syrian Ministry of Interior reported in a statement, reproduced by the official news agency SANA, that the two explosive devices had been detected by the Internal Security Forces during field operations.

According to the state media, specialized units began to apply the necessary measures to defuse the explosives, but both detonated while they were preparing to carry out that operation.

Following the explosions, security forces established a security cordon in the area to protect the population, while specialized teams began inspection and protection work at the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outside the security perimeter for Macron<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry has assured that the point where the detonations occurred is located outside the security perimeter established for Macron’s residence, and that the incident did not pose any direct threat to the French leader or to the progress of his official visit, which continues as planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, the official television station Al Ijbariya had reported two loud explosions near the Four Seasons hotel, where the French president is staying, and a search operation to identify those responsible.

According to the same sources, the explosions were caused by two homemade bombs, like the one that detonated last Thursday at a caf\u00e9 frequented by lawyers in Damascus, near the Palace of Justice, which caused the death of 10 people and injured 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eyewitnesses observed a column of smoke in an area near the hotel where the French president spent the night, in the center of Damascus, and from which he had departed hours earlier to meet with his Syrian counterpart, Ahmed al-Sharaa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
