Beijing.- <\/em><\/strong>A fire <\/a>that broke out this Thursday at a footwear factory in the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian caused several casualties and left a number of people trapped, while emergency teams continued extinguishing and rescue efforts, state media reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fire broke out around 12:00 local time (04:00 GMT) at a plant belonging to the company Fujian Huiteng Shoes, located in the city of Jinjiang, reported the official Xinhua agency, which mentioned “several victims” but did not specify a concrete toll of dead or injured at the moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to state television CCTV, the local fire command center received the alert at 12:04 local time (04:04 GMT) regarding a fire at a company warehouse, located in the town of Chendai, under the jurisdiction of Jinjiang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CCTV indicated that several people were trapped on the factory roof and that a preliminary assessment placed the origin of the fire in a first-floor workshop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fire department sources indicated that the security access points had accumulated footwear materials, according to the same network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Emergency Management reported that the fire caused casualties and that, after receiving the notice, it maintained monitoring of the rescue and firefighting efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firefighting teams deployed 183 personnel and 35 vehicles to the scene, while the flames continued to be fought throughout the afternoon, according to authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chinese President Xi Jinping urged “all-out efforts” in search and rescue operations, to clarify the cause of the fire as soon as possible, and to hold those responsible accountable, Xinhua reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fujian Huiteng Shoes company was founded in 2015 and is mainly dedicated to the manufacturing of footwear and products related to leather and other materials, according to corporate records cited by the local press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
