His family confirmed that he is not at his home in Havana, as reported by activist <strong>Yanelis N\u00fa\u00f1ez<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cuban curator and dissident <strong>Anamely Ramos Gonz\u00e1lez<\/strong>, a member of the <strong>San Isidro Movement<\/strong>, denounced that the artivist is neither free nor released, but rather \u201cdisappeared.\u201d \u201cNeither his family nor his close friends have had any official communication, and if we know he was taken out of Guanajay, it is because of the solidarity of other prisoners,\u201d Ramos Gonz\u00e1lez noted on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobae.com\/america\/america-latina\/2026\/07\/09\/china-golpea-al-principal-producto-de-exportacion-de-ecuador-con-la-suspension-de-siete-plantas-camaroneras\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>This Thursday, Otero Alc\u00e1ntara communicated briefly with Ramos Gonz\u00e1lez from a State Security phone. \u201cHe called me from a State Security cell phone, unknown number, and the call was on speakerphone,\u201d the activist detailed on her Facebook profile. He will be in that unknown place until it is resolved,\u201d<\/strong> she wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobae.com\/america\/america-latina\/2026\/07\/09\/la-dictadura-de-cuba-expuso-el-alcance-de-sus-reformas-economicas-para-las-empresas-estatales-y-privadas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>According to N\u00fa\u00f1ez, a request for supervised release (parole) in the United States had been initiated weeks ago for Otero Alc\u00e1ntara, although he clarified that there was no confirmation of an actual expulsion. According to the same source, the regime had repeatedly proposed exile as an alternative to prison and was keeping the artist in a <strong>Ministry of the Interior (MININT)<\/strong> facility while finalizing preparations for a possible transfer to Miami.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Otero Alc\u00e1ntara had stated on repeated occasions that he did not wish to leave Cuba against his will. The <strong>People&#8217;s Municipal Court of Centro Habana<\/strong> sentenced him in June 2022 to five years of deprivation of liberty for the crimes of \u201ccontempt, public disorder, and continued outrage to the symbols of the homeland,\u201d within Case No. 12\/2022. Otero Alc\u00e1ntara always denied the charges and denounced multiple abuses during his imprisonment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last April, the <strong>Supreme People&#8217;s Court of Cuba<\/strong> dismissed an appeal requesting his early release, considering that he had already served the sentence that corresponded to him. The <strong>United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention<\/strong> had previously concluded that his deprivation of liberty, along with that of artist <strong>Hamlet Lavastida<\/strong>, was \u201carbitrary\u201d and asked the Cuban Government to remedy the situation \u201cwithout delay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Performance artist Luis Manuel Otero Alc\u00e1ntara together with rapper Maykel Osorbo when they were sentenced<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Amnesty International (AI)<\/strong> demanded the \u201cimmediate and unconditional release\u201d of the artist, whom it considers a prisoner of conscience. \u201cLuis Manuel, an Afro-Cuban artist and prisoner of conscience, should never have been imprisoned for expressing himself, creating art, and peacefully exercising his rights.
