The Minister of Agriculture, Francisco Oliverio Espaillat Bencosme, urged producers in the San Juan Valley to strengthen weed control, advance the mechanization of agricultural tasks, and adopt sustainable practices that increase productivity, reduce costs, and strengthen the sector’s resilience to climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The guidelines were provided during the Technical Discussion with Agricultural Producers of the San Juan Valley, held at the campus of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), as part of the actions of the National Mechanization Plan developed by the Ministry of Agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During his speech, the minister highlighted the importance of integrating modern technologies and mechanization processes that optimize water use, improve efficiency in agricultural tasks, and contribute to more competitive and sustainable production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0Likewise, it reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to supporting producers and associations in the incorporation of these tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the discussion, agronomist Rub\u00e9n Jim\u00e9nez presented the lecture “Weed control in rice cultivation,” in which he explained the economic impact of the main species that affect this crop and shared methods for their identification and efficient management, with the purpose of increasing productivity levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For his part, Cristino Dur\u00e1n spoke on “Mechanization of the resilient model,” highlighting that the incorporation of sustainable technologies and practices allows for producing more with fewer resources, optimizing the use of land, water, and machinery, as well as reducing costs and emissions, favoring more profitable and environmentally responsible agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
