The twin earthquakes of June 24<\/strong> in Venezuela left at least 4,118 dead and 16,740 injured<\/strong>, according to the official report released this Friday by the president of the Venezuelan Parliament, the Chavista Jorge Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong>, through his Telegram channel. The figure represents an increase of 229 deaths compared to the previous count.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>The two earthquakes occurred 39 seconds apart: the first reached a magnitude of 7.2 and the second, 7.5, becoming the most powerful recorded in the country in over a century. Both collapsed entire blocks of buildings in the coastal state of La Guaira<\/strong>, reducing apartment complexes to layers of rubble. Thousands of people remain missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The official balance accounts for 17,907 homeless people and 86,794 families assisted. A total of 17,266 victims are distributed across 89 temporary camps, while authorities have distributed 9,766 tons of food and 13.9 million liters of water. On the ground, 30,076 military and security personnel are operating, along with 29,843 registered volunteers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Of the 856 buildings affected, 190 collapsed completely. Although rescue teams have concluded the search for survivors, family members continue to remove rubble in an attempt to recover the remains of their loved ones to give them a proper burial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delcy Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong> confirmed this Friday that she spoke with the president of Brazil, Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva<\/strong>, who offered her unconditional support to Venezuela following the two earthquakes on June 24 that left more than 3,800 dead, at least 16,740 injured, and nearly 17,900 people homeless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHe told me: \u2018President Delcy, whatever you need, pick up the phone and call me\u2019\u201d, recounted Rodr\u00edguez, whose statements were broadcast by the state channel Venezolana de Televisi\u00f3n<\/em> (VTV). The acting president was conducting an inspection of recovery work in a Caracas building when she reported the morning contact with the Brazilian leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez added that his Government has requested \u201cinternational assistance and cooperation\u201d for the reconstruction of the affected areas, and that foreign experts are currently working alongside Venezuelan authorities on the recovery of infrastructure and housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brasilia’s support materialized on June 30, when the Brazilian Minister of Defense, Jos\u00e9 M\u00facio<\/strong>, traveled to Venezuela accompanied by representatives of the financial institution Caixa Econ\u00f4mica Federal<\/strong> and the Ministry of Cities. According to VTV, the objective was to expand humanitarian cooperation and advance the construction of housing for affected families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that meeting with Rodr\u00edguez, the Venezuelan Minister of Public Works, Juan Jos\u00e9 Ram\u00edrez<\/strong>, and the head of Habitat and Housing, Paola Posani<\/strong>, were present, according to the same state source. Days earlier, Lula had expressed his \u201cgreat concern and dismay\u201d regarding the earthquakes, as well as his \u201cdetermination to support the Venezuelan Government\u201d in the recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez also referred to a 3.9-magnitude earthquake that shook areas of northern Venezuela this Friday, which she described as “shallow,” with no damage or casualties reported so far.
