New York<\/strong>.- The United States launched a new round of attacks against Iran this Saturday after Tehran bombed a Cyprus-flagged vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to the U.S. Central Command (Centcom).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 19:15 local time (23:15 GMT), U.S. forces launched the third offensive against Iran this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Centcom, Iran attacked a Cyprus-flagged container ship, which caused a fire on the vessel and damage to the engine room that forced the voyage to be halted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A crew member is missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Iran was given a new opportunity to demonstrate compliance with the memorandum of understanding after being held accountable for previous attacks against commercial vessels, but it has failed again,” the military command stated in a message on X.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

U.S. forces justified the attack against the Islamic Republic by stating they are “degrading its ability” to attack other vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bombings were carried out by order of U.S. President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran, for its part, announced that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed “until further notice<\/strong>“.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Revolutionary Guard asserted that any foreign interference to open an “illegal route” in the region will receive a forceful response, as reported by the Iranian state broadcaster IRIB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A few days ago, Trump terminated the ceasefire agreement, which had been in effect between both countries, following the resumption of bombings in the Middle East<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
