Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> Dominican authorities extradited two citizens<\/a> this Saturday who were claimed by the United States justice system to face charges related to alleged large-scale drug trafficking operations and other crimes linked to organized crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The operation was executed jointly by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) and the National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD), with the support of the United States Marshals Service, as part of the judicial cooperation mechanisms between both nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The extradited individuals were identified as Luis Ezequiel Then Mart\u00ednez<\/strong> and Carlos Pisandro Pe\u00f1a Tejeda<\/strong>, also known as Bertinio Emilio Peguero<\/strong>. Both were handed over to U.S. authorities at the Las Am\u00e9ricas International Airport (AILA), from where they were transported under custody on a flight bound for U.S. territory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the authorities, Then Mart\u00ednez is wanted by the New York State Supreme Court, under decree 337-26, to answer for charges including second-degree conspiracy, operating as an alleged large-scale drug trafficker, first-degree sale of controlled substances, and first and third-degree criminal possession of narcotics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The institutions responsible for the process indicated that the handover of the defendants was carried out in accordance with the current legal provisions and the international treaties signed by the Dominican Republic regarding extradition and judicial cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, they highlighted that these actions are part of the joint strategy to confront transnational organized crime networks, strengthen the fight against drug trafficking, and ensure that individuals wanted by justice appear before the competent courts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
