{"id":515154,"date":"2026-07-13T11:32:48","date_gmt":"2026-07-13T15:32:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/pld-questions-abinaders-claims-regarding-the-strengthening-of-state-institutions\/"},"modified":"2026-07-13T11:36:00","modified_gmt":"2026-07-13T15:36:00","slug":"pld-questions-abinaders-claims-regarding-the-strengthening-of-state-institutions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/dominican-news\/pld-questions-abinaders-claims-regarding-the-strengthening-of-state-institutions\/","title":{"rendered":"PLD questions Abinader&#8217;s claims regarding the strengthening of State institutions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo-.<\/strong> The <strong>Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) <\/strong>questioned President Luis Abinader&#8217;s claims regarding the alleged strengthening of state institutions during his administration, maintaining that the reality perceived by citizens reflects a different landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through a press conference, the opposition organization stated that, although it recognizes the constitutional reform that limits presidential reelection as positive, this measure alone is not enough to guarantee institutional strengthening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>You may be interested in: <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/PLD asegura sentencia del TSE no anula su proceso de escoger candidato presidencial\">PLD asserts TSE ruling does not annul its presidential candidate selection process<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>The people do not feel the institutional strengthening that the Government proclaims; quite the opposite<\/strong>&#8220;, expressed the PLD in response to the statements made by the president, who assured that one of the main legacies of his administration will be precisely the strengthening of public institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The party maintained that a solid democracy does not depend solely on constitutional changes, but on institutions that generate trust, guarantee equality before the law, combat corruption, and offer efficient public services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As part of its arguments, the PLD cited data from a survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), according to which 38.9% of Dominicans trust the Government, 36.7% the National Congress, and 38.6% the Judiciary, figures which, in its view, evidence low public trust in the country&#8217;s main institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, he pointed out that citizen insecurity, corruption, and the high cost of living continue to be among the population&#8217;s main concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Regarding energy, the organization stated that losses in the electrical system exceed 40% and asserted that between 2020 and 2026, the deficit of distribution companies has represented more than <strong>RD$547 billion<\/strong> for public finances, while the subsidy to the sector reached a record high of over <strong>RD$107 billion<\/strong> in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The PLD also questioned the quality of public services, noting that problems persist in areas such as citizen security, health, education, transportation, and the electrical system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the document, the organization listed ten characteristics that, in its view, a strong institution must possess, including generating trust among citizens, applying the law equally, acting independently, managing public resources with transparency, professionalizing the public service, and improving the population&#8217;s quality of life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, the party concluded that the institutional legacy of a government should not be measured by the constitutional reforms it promotes, but by the level of trust inspired by the institutions, the quality of public services, and the State&#8217;s capacity to respond to the needs of the citizenry. &#8220;History will judge each government not by what it claimed to have strengthened, but by the institutions it actually left functioning in the service of the Dominican people,&#8221; the political organization maintained.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santo Domingo-.
