The measures seek to restrict the Cuban State&#8217;s sources of income and increase the economic cost for the institutions that sustain the island&#8217;s political and repressive structure.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobae.com\/estados-unidos\/2026\/07\/13\/meta-recorto-el-10-de-su-plantilla-por-la-ia-pero-4-meses-despues-su-fundador-admitio-que-la-aceleracion-no-llego\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a statement, the <strong>State Department<\/strong> explained that the restrictions are directed against the \u201cinterconnected pillars\u201d of the Cuban state apparatus. According to the diplomatic portfolio, the sanctions reach \u201c<strong>state entities that channel revenue to the regime and to paramilitary forces, armed civilian groups, and surveillance organizations that repress the Cuban people<\/strong>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Among the organizations added to the sanctions list are the <strong>Territorial Troop Militias<\/strong> (MTT), a civilian paramilitary body; the <strong>Rapid Response Brigades<\/strong>, described by Washington as parapolice groups organized and trained by the Cuban dictatorship; and the <strong>Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution<\/strong> (ACRC), to which the United States attributes surveillance tasks over dissidents.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobae.com\/estados-unidos\/2026\/07\/13\/estados-unidos-lanzo-una-nueva-ronda-de-ataques-contra-iran-para-degradar-su-capacidad-militar-en-estrecho-de-ormuz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cuban dictator, Miguel D\u00edaz-Canel, during an official rally in Havana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend reading:<a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/internacionales\/ee-uu-lanza-ataques-contra-iran\/\">U.S. launches attacks against Iran for the third night, Central Command states<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new measures also include several state-owned companies related to trade and fuel imports, in addition to other companies linked to logistics and transport activities. The Ministry of Tourism was also subjected to financial restrictions, in a context where that sector continues to be one of the main sources of foreign currency for the Cuban economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the U.S. administration, several of the sanctioned entities maintain ties with the business conglomerate <strong>GAESA<\/strong>, controlled by the Revolutionary Armed Forces and considered the country&#8217;s main economic group. That corporation had already been the subject of sanctions on May 1st and, according to Washington, subsequently began a process of reorganization and asset transfer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.infobae.com\/estados-unidos\/2026\/07\/13\/por-primera-vez-se-conoce-la-identidad-de-la-pareja-de-lorena-bobbitt-la-mujer-que-corto-los-genitales-a-su-esposo-tras-anos-de-abusos\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><\/a>In parallel, the <strong>Department of the Treasury<\/strong> reported that it will grant a transition period until August 12 for foreign companies to conclude operations involving two of the now-sanctioned companies, GECOMEX and GEMAR, without being exposed to punitive measures. Likewise, it urged entities that cannot finalize those transactions before that date to contact the office in charge of compliance with the sanctions regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Cuban flag waves on the beach of Varadero, one of the main tourist destinations on the island.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision comes amid the maximum pressure strategy that Washington has maintained on Havana since January. In addition to expanding economic sanctions, the Trump administration has tightened restrictions related to <strong>energy supplies to the island<\/strong>, a policy that has coincided with the worsening of the economic crisis and supply problems facing Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The announcement comes two days after the fifth anniversary of the <strong>July 11, 2021<\/strong> protests, when thousands of Cubans demonstrated in different cities to demand better living conditions and greater freedoms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the occasion of that date, Secretary of State <strong>Marco Rubio<\/strong> reaffirmed that the United States will maintain its policy toward the Cuban regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>The United States will continue to use all tools at its disposal both to address the national security threats posed by the Cuban communist regime and to promote economic and political reforms<\/strong>,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rubio also urged the Cuban dictatorship to move toward internal changes. \u201c<strong>Cuba&#8217;s leaders must simply choose to commit to real reforms, peace, and prosperity, before it is too late<\/strong>,\u201d he maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during a trilateral meeting with the foreign ministers of Japan and South Korea, on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara (REUTERS\/Yves Herman)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the head of U.S. diplomacy demanded the release of those who remain detained following the 2021 demonstrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<strong>Five years later, hundreds of Cubans remain unjustly imprisoned<\/strong>,\u201d he noted, while reiterating the call for the \u201cimmediate release of these and all political prisoners in Cuba.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Secretary of State added that Washington has raised the possibility of a different relationship with Havana if the regime implements political and economic reforms.
