{"id":515793,"date":"2026-07-16T13:44:44","date_gmt":"2026-07-16T17:44:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/deputies-postpone-session-to-study-more-than-80-proposals-to-amend-the-penal-code\/"},"modified":"2026-07-16T13:44:44","modified_gmt":"2026-07-16T17:44:44","slug":"deputies-postpone-session-to-study-more-than-80-proposals-to-amend-the-penal-code","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/uncategorized\/deputies-postpone-session-to-study-more-than-80-proposals-to-amend-the-penal-code\/","title":{"rendered":"Deputies postpone session to study more than 80 proposals to amend the Penal Code"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> The president of the <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"674892\">Chamber of Deputies,<\/a> Alfredo Pacheco, suspended the session scheduled for this Thursday and rescheduled it for Friday, in order to grant more time to the bicameral commission studying the modifications to the Penal Code, after receiving dozens of observations from citizens and organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision was adopted after the conclusion of the suggestion reception process opened by the National Congress, during which <strong>84 proposals<\/strong> were submitted to be evaluated by the commission composed of legislators from different benches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pacheco explained that the postponement is due to the delay in reviewing the observations submitted and the need for the commission to have sufficient time to evaluate them before the project is presented to the plenary session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAfter evaluating the work we have been doing, and following the closing of the reception of suggestions that have been made by the different actors of Dominican society, who until yesterday, at six in the evening, deposited their observations on the Penal Code, we have made the decision to postpone the discussion that we had scheduled for today,\u201d expressed the president of the Chamber of Deputies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend reading: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The legislator added that the delay is due to the volume of proposals received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cObviously, that is because we are behind with the evaluation of the proposals that have been made,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For his part, the president of the bicameral commission, Senator Pedro Catrain, reported that a total of <strong>84 proposals<\/strong> were received, many of them overlapping, including one presented by the <strong>United Nations<\/strong> related to the protection of children and adolescents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Meanwhile, the President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, urged citizens not to despair if some initiatives are not incorporated at this stage, reminding them that the Penal Code may continue to be subject to modifications during the next legislative session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the opposition, deputy Jos\u00e9 Alberto Jim\u00e9nez abandoned the work of the bicameral commission, considering it impossible to analyze, in such a short time, the dozens of proposals received and to approve a reform of that magnitude with the level of depth it requires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In contrast, ruling party deputy Mar\u00eda Mercedes Ortiz defended the commission&#8217;s work pace and assured that the legislators are committed to reviewing each of the observations presented.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bicameral commission remains in permanent session with the objective of concluding the study of the bill and approving the modifications before <strong>August 3<\/strong>, the date scheduled for the <strong>entry into force<\/strong> of the new Penal Code.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santo Domingo.\u2013 The president of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco, suspended the session scheduled for this Thursday and rescheduled it for Friday, in order to grant more time to the bicameral commission studying the modifications to the Penal Code, after receiving dozens of observations from citizens and organizations.
