Santo Domingo.\u2013<\/strong> The public prosecutor Melbin Romero Suazo<\/a><\/strong> requested that the Superior Council of the Public Ministry include in the 2027 institutional budget the necessary resources to create and put into operation a Public Prosecutor’s Office in Santo Domingo Norte, with the aim of bringing justice services closer to the residents of that municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The petition states that Santo Domingo Norte, with a population of 674,274 inhabitants<\/strong>, according to the X National Population and Housing Census 2022, requires its own Public Ministry headquarters due to its demographic growth and the levels of criminality recorded in the demarcation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romero explained that, currently, citizens must travel to other jurisdictions to file complaints, receive victim support, or participate in judicial proceedings, a situation that, he stated, limits timely access to justice and increases the workload of the Santo Domingo Este Fiscal Prosecutor’s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative contemplates the enabling of a headquarters for the new prosecutor’s office, the creation of its administrative and operational structure, the designation of fiscal, technical, and administrative personnel, as well as the acquisition of equipment, furniture, and logistical resources to guarantee its operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fiscal prosecutor maintained that the installation of a Fiscal Prosecutor’s Office in Santo Domingo Norte would allow for strengthening the prosecution of crime, streamlining citizen services, and improving the Public Ministry’s response capacity in one of the most populous municipalities in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, he highlighted the actions being carried out by the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic to expand and modernize the network of prosecutor’s offices and Comprehensive Justice Access Centers in different provinces, including Sos\u00faa, La Gu\u00e1yiga, Haina, Boca Chica, La Romana, Hato Mayor, Saman\u00e1, Moca, Santiago, and La Vega, in addition to the upcoming opening of a branch in Neyba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Romero expressed his confidence that Santo Domingo Norte will be included in that institutional strengthening process, considering that having its own prosecutor’s office would contribute to offering a closer, more agile, and efficient justice service for the municipality’s inhabitants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
