The numbers speak for themselves. You cannot change the nature of numbers,&#8221; stated the former president.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medina stated that upon concluding his administration in August 2020, he left a public debt of 39 billion dollars and asserted that it currently amounts to 68 billion dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;<strong>Tell me if, from 39 billion to 68 billion dollars, I am the one who indebted the country the most<\/strong>,&#8221; he stated, after defending that the resources obtained during his administrations were allocated to the construction of public works and investments to boost national development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The also president of the PLD maintained that the current Government has doubled the interest payments on the debt, indicating that during his administration the State allocated 161 billion pesos to that concept, while currently, as he stated, that item reaches 322 billion pesos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This Government has not had any kind of caution regarding indebtedness, because it seems it does not understand the damage done to an economy when 322 billion pesos are allocated to interest payments. Those resources are used to maintain the fiscal deficit and cover current expenses,&#8221; he maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, he questioned the handling of loans contracted between 2020 and 2022, asserting that nearly 200 billion pesos remained deposited in banking entities before being used, a situation he described as a sign of inefficiency in the administration of public resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Medina also criticized the increase in state payroll spending, noting that it went from 104 billion pesos during his administration to more than 377 billion pesos today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;No one has indebted the Dominican Republic as much as this government and, yet, the population lives in conditions of hardship and with a stagnant economy,&#8221; he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statements were made during a political activity in which the PLD swore in dozens of new members from various political organizations.
