Khartoum.-<\/em><\/strong> At least 33 people, mostly women and children, were found dead<\/a> in northern Sudan after their vehicle broke down, leaving them stranded in the middle of the desert for more than two months, official sources reported this Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Government of South Darfur state, in western Sudan, announced in a statement the discovery of the bodies of 33 travelers near a broken-down vehicle in the desert, between Mellit (North Darfur) and Al Dabba (Northern State), and indicated that the bodies were discovered approximately two months after the group went missing during their journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The note added that the group departed from the Tulus area, in South Darfur, in mid-May, on a bus bound for Al Dabba, but it broke down in the vast northern Sudanese desert, and other travelers were the ones who discovered the vehicle and the bodies by chance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The governor of South Darfur, Bashir Marsal, lamented the loss of a teacher along with five of her children in the accident, and confirmed that she worked in the town of Tulus, south of Nyala, and was attempting to resume her children’s education in northern Sudan after an interruption of more than four years due to the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, Mohamed Omar, a relative of the accident victims, stated to the press that the family received notification of the discovery of the bodies of three of their relatives two months after they departed from the city of Mellit heading to Al Dabba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that most of the passengers were women accompanied by children under 10 years of age, and noted that they died of thirst in the northern state’s desert after the vehicle they were traveling in broke down. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
