Israel rejects those accusations and does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mamdani acknowledged, however, that it is not yet clear whether the Mayor&#8217;s Office or the New York Police Department (NYPD) has the legal authority to execute such a measure against a foreign head of government, which is why he assured that any decision would be adopted solely within the framework of the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The statements generated immediate reactions in the United States. The U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, Mike Waltz, described the proposal as &#8220;political theater&#8221; and maintained that Washington does not recognize the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court, while also recalling that heads of state and government have diplomatic protections during their official visits to the UN headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Political leaders and representatives of organizations linked to the Jewish community also spoke out, questioning the mayor&#8217;s stance and arguing that he should focus on matters related to the city&#8217;s administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Netanyahu&#8217;s potential visit to New York would take place in the framework of the United Nations General Assembly scheduled for September, amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza and the international debate over the arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>New York.
