{"id":516312,"date":"2026-07-20T11:50:22","date_gmt":"2026-07-20T15:50:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/uncategorized\/ricardo-de-los-santos-says-that-adjustments-are-still-being-made-to-the-penal-code-project\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T12:20:22","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T16:20:22","slug":"ricardo-de-los-santos-says-that-adjustments-are-still-being-made-to-the-penal-code-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/dominican-news\/politics\/ricardo-de-los-santos-says-that-adjustments-are-still-being-made-to-the-penal-code-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Ricardo de los Santos says that adjustments are still being made to the Penal Code project"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> The President of the Senate, <a href=\"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"674892\">Ricardo de los Santos<\/a>, affirmed that the National Congress is working to approve the reform of the Penal Code before the current legislative session concludes, after assuring that the bill has been widely agreed upon between the bicameral commissions of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De los Santos explained that the commission studying the initiative continues to meet and review modifications proposed by different sectors of society, many of which have been incorporated into the project when they have been duly substantiated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He indicated that the proposals that were not accepted will also receive a formal response with an explanation of the reasons why they were not included, with the aim of maintaining the transparency of the legislative process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;This is an open Congress and we have always been willing to listen to all sectors of society,&#8221; he\/she expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The President of the Senate expressed his confidence that the piece of legislation will be approved before the end of the legislative session, and therefore considered that there will be no issues for the new Penal Code to enter into force on the scheduled date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Likewise, he announced that he will present an amendment to article 173, through the incorporation of a paragraph, the details of which would be made known later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De los Santos highlighted that the coordinated work between both chambers has allowed for progress toward a consensus text, with the purpose of avoiding changes when the bill reaches the Senate and expediting its final approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;We are a bicameral Congress, but a single Congress, and when we work in harmony we achieve better results,&#8221; he maintained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend reading: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The legislator assured that, if necessary, Congress will continue to hold sessions even during weekends to conclude the process, reiterating that there is a &#8220;firm decision&#8221; to provide the country with an updated Penal Code.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Santo Domingo.- The President of the Senate, Ricardo de los Santos, affirmed that the National Congress is working to approve the reform of the Penal Code before the current legislative session concludes, after assuring that the bill has been widely agreed upon between the bicameral commissions of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
