Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> Four days before the start of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, President Luis Abinader<\/a> inaugurated the volleyball and taekwondo pavilions at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, as part of the preparation work for the celebration of the regional sporting event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the event, held at the volleyball pavilion, the president presented the national flag to the Dominican delegation that will participate in the competition and witnessed an exhibition match between the teams of the Dominican Republic and Cuba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abinader also conducted a supervision tour of the facility’s sports installations, accompanied by the Minister of Housing and Buildings, V\u00edctor \u201cIto\u201d Bison\u00f3, and the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, to verify the progress and conditions of the spaces that will host the competitions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bison\u00f3 highlighted that the works carried out seek to create opportunities for athletes and the public, while recalling that 16 pavilions and sports facilities were renovated prior to the games, in addition to the complete construction of one of these spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, Kelvin Cruz highlighted the conditions of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and announced that the Government will allocate RD$70 million in incentives for Dominican athletes who win medals during the sporting event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investment for the renovation of sports facilities amounts to approximately RD$9 billion, with the goal of ensuring spaces that meet international standards and strengthen the development of national sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government authorities, the president of the Games Organizing Committee, Jos\u00e9 Monegro, and the president of Centro Caribe Sports, Luis Mej\u00eda, participated in the activity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the works delivered at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center and the Parque del Este are pavilions for volleyball, taekwondo, karate, fencing, chess, gymnastics, weightlifting, handball, table tennis, as well as facilities for baseball, softball, swimming, and archery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
