Lima.- <\/em><\/strong>The Peruvian Public Prosecutor’s Office<\/a> has opened an investigation into the case of a 7-year-old girl from the Awaj\u00fan ethnic group who was a victim of sexual abuse allegedly committed by her stepfather in a native community in the country’s Amazon, the Public Ministry reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As initial actions, the Prosecutor’s Office ordered immediate protection measures and the air transport of the victim to the hospital in the city of Bagua, more than 1,000 kilometers northeast of Lima, “to guarantee their specialized care.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecutor’s office indicated that “the events allegedly took place on the afternoon of Saturday, July 18, in the community of Paantan Entsa, Cenepa district, Condorcanqui province,” bordering Ecuador.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the defendant in this case is the minor’s stepfather, identified as Darwin Chuup, and that he “allegedly perpetrated the assault at the family home.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that, given the seriousness of the event, the office in charge of provincial prosecutor Yovana Machaca Zapana ordered since last Sunday “the execution of urgent proceedings to safeguard the integrity of the girl”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that it “will continue with the development of the investigations and the pertinent legal actions to ensure the victim’s access to justice.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The victim was transported by a military helicopter to the Bagua Hospital, where they received a transfusion of a globular package, which allowed them to be stabilized and remain under observation, as detailed by the Health Directorate of the Regional Government of Amazonas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After this complaint became known, the National Human Rights Coordinator demanded “the immediate intervention” of the Ministry of Health, the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Ombudsman’s Office to address the minor’s situation and arrest the aggressor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The agency noted that the case became known because the girl told what happened to the members of the local health post, to which she was taken by her own aggressor, who had threatened her not to reveal what had happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Upon being discovered, the subject fled the health center and escaped from the community,” he remarked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local media reported that members of the local community managed to capture him later, but he escaped again while being taken to the Cenepa National Police station, so he is currently being sought by the authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
