The deputy of the Modern Revolutionary Party for the province of La Vega, Jos\u00e9 Luis Abreu, expressed his concern this Tuesday regarding police mistreatment and abuse in the Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The police must respect the citizen. The poor people in the neighborhoods and the countryside are already fed up with police mistreatment. They are fed up and bothering the poor of this country. I do not agree with disorder, but leave the working people alone, do not bother them. The rich have places to enjoy themselves and the police do not go to bother them,” the legislator expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also stressed that “Apparently, the police understand that being poor in the Dominican Republic is a crime. Most of the measures being taken in the different neighborhoods are to the detriment of the poor.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A poor person cannot go to a resort, a poor person does not travel out of the country, a poor person does not socialize in a villa. Poor people who earn 4,000 and 5,000 pesos a week go to a corner store to socialize with family, the police arrive there and assault the poor. The poor person goes to the river and the police think they are the head of the environment department, they go at 5:00 in the afternoon and take them out of the river. A poor person cannot listen to music in a vehicle because even if they have it low, apparently the police modified the law which says that music is not prohibited anywhere. The police stop the citizen, take away their music, and say it is prohibited. What is prohibited is noise and high decibel levels. I do not agree with noise and I do not agree with disorder,” Abreu indicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the other hand, he highlighted the great work that the constitutional president is doing with the humble population, increasing programs and training the youth so that they can move forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
