A South Korean YouTuber<\/strong> in his 50s died on July 18 after ingesting a poisonous<\/a> substance during a live broadcast<\/strong>, while at least one viewer tried to alert emergency services to save his life.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred around 20:30 (local time) in the vicinity of his residence in Jaeun-myeon, Sinan<\/strong> County, South Korea<\/strong>, as reported by the South Korean media outlet Newsis<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The content creator, identified only as \u201cA\u201d in accordance with the country’s privacy regulations, was streaming from a vehicle when, in the middle of an argument with a subscriber, he announced his intention to ingest a toxic substance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>A viewer who was following the broadcast immediately contacted the 119 emergency number in South Korea<\/strong> in an attempt to save his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency services arrived at the scene and found the YouTuber in cardiac arrest. He was rushed to a hospital in Mokpo, where he was pronounced dead. Neither his identity nor the substance he ingested have been publicly revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>The YouTuber identified as \u201cA\u201d announced that he would ingest a toxic substance in the middle of an argument with a subscriber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the South Korean media outlet Sports Khan<\/em>, the creator lived with his family on the island and operated a small-scale channel whose broadcasts focused on everyday conversations with his followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sinan Police Station<\/strong> confirmed that the investigation remains open: authorities secured the recording of the live broadcast and are working to establish the exact circumstances of the death and the content of the argument that preceded it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case adds to a series of deaths that have struck the content creator community in South Korea<\/strong> over the last year. In 2025, a South Korean streamer was found dead and a viewer was arrested as a suspect in her murder after having donated tens of thousands of dollars to her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In another case recorded that same year, the popular YouTuber Na Dong-hyun<\/strong>, known online as Dae Library, was found lifeless in his home in Seoul<\/strong> after failing to show up for a scheduled meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A viewer called South Korea’s 119 to alert emergency services and try to save the YouTuber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case of the Japanese streamer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The streamer environment has not only recorded accidental deaths or suicides: it has also been the scene of premeditated attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 15, 2026, the Tokyo<\/strong> District Court sentenced Kenichi Takano<\/strong>, 44, to 16 years in prison for the murder of streamer Airi Sato<\/strong>, 22, a crime committed in March 2025 in front of more than 6,000 viewers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecution had requested a 20-year sentence, while the defense asked for nine, arguing that the attack occurred after a dispute over a loan of approximately 2.55 million yen (about 16,000 dollars) that Takano<\/strong> had granted to Sato<\/strong> and which she never repaid, leaving him in a deteriorated financial situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court determined that Takano<\/strong> stabbed Sato<\/strong> at least 55 times in the face, neck, and chest<\/strong>. According to the ruling, the intensity of the wounds to the neck demonstrated that the defendant had a firm intention to kill her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The case adds to other deaths of content creators in South Korea, including YouTuber Na Dong-hyun and a streamer murdered in 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attack lasted approximately one minute, during which the victim begged him to stop, according to court documents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prosecution described the attack as \u201cextremely brutal\u201d and noted that Takano<\/strong> continued stabbing Sato<\/strong> despite his pleas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Witnesses who heard the screams from nearby buildings initially believed that Takano<\/strong> was someone coming to her aid, as reported by the Japanese newspaper Asahi<\/em>. Sato<\/strong> was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Takano<\/strong> had met the young woman through her online broadcasts. Since 2022, he frequented the restaurant where she worked as a hostess and spent nearly 2.4 million yen (about 14,800 dollars) on platform items and visits to the establishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
