Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> The Chamber of Deputies<\/a> approved this Wednesday, in two consecutive readings and as a matter of urgency, the bill that promotes, encourages, and recognizes the exercise of responsible citizen voting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative, authored by deputy Eugenio Cede\u00f1o<\/strong>, seeks to stimulate electoral participation, strengthen civic awareness regarding the importance of suffrage, and recognize those who fulfill this civic right and duty through benefits and incentives that promote responsible participation in electoral processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project received the backing of all political benches represented in the Lower House and was approved unanimously with the favorable vote of the legislators present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the arguments supporting the proposal, the concern regarding the low levels of participation recorded in recent national electoral processes stands out, reflected in the high percentage of abstention, especially among young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document points out that this situation encourages political parties and candidates to resort to questionable practices to motivate the participation of certain sectors of the electorate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following its approval in the Chamber of Deputies, the initiative will move to the Senate of the Republic<\/strong> to continue with the corresponding legislative process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the same session, the deputies also approved the bill declaring June 6th as National Environmental Defender Day in the Dominican Republic<\/strong>, with the purpose of honoring the memory of Orlando Jorge Mera<\/strong> and recognizing those who work in the protection of natural resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposal, presented by deputy Jaqueline Fern\u00e1ndez<\/strong>, establishes that date in commemoration of the passing of Jorge Mera, who served as Minister of Environment and Natural Resources and was recognized for his commitment to legality, transparency, and the defense of the country’s environmental heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the legislators approved the resolution that validates the acts of the Executive Branch included in the reports of the corresponding ministries for the year 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, they gave the green light to a set of initiatives related to 56 real estate purchase agreements between the State and private individuals<\/strong>, which were pending approval.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco<\/strong>, and Deputy Tob\u00edas Crespo<\/strong>, President of the Permanent Committee on Contracts, indicated that the approval of these agreements will benefit 35,159 Dominicans<\/strong>, who will be able to obtain their definitive property titles for the land and housing they occupy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
