Santo Domingo.- <\/strong>With the goal of strengthening and dignifying school sports, the National Institute of Physical Education (Inefi) began this Wednesday the construction of a modern roofed facility at the Rep\u00fablica de Chile School, in the San Carlos sector, in the National District.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was led by the executive director of Inefi, Alberto Rodr\u00edguez Mella, who, prior to breaking ground, reported that said work reflects the commitment that President Luis Abinader has to the dignification of the country’s educational and sports spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rodr\u00edguez Mella maintained that this project not only responds to an infrastructure need, but also represents a direct investment in the integral development of our youth, by offering an environment conducive to the practice of sports, physical activity, and healthy coexistence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He recalled that during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, \u201cwhen we met in clubs and sports courts, what people asked President Abinader for was a roof so as not to practice in the rain or the sun\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He highlighted that the roofing will not only be for sporting events, but community activities such as weddings, birthdays, report card distribution, faculty meetings, neighborhood association meetings, among other gatherings, can also be held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe aspire for this space to become a meeting point to strengthen the values, discipline, and sense of community that our educational system needs so much,\u201d stated the incumbent of Inefi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He expressed confidence that the roofing will be delivered before the start of the next school year, \u201cthanks to God, the good weather, and the strength of the workers and engineers who will work on it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For his part, the school’s director, Professor Manuel de los Santos, was very pleased and grateful that the government of President Luis Abinader, through Inefi, took the initiative to build the sports center, which \u201chas been highly anticipated by our students and community members.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De los Santos ratified what was said by Rodr\u00edguez Mella when reporting that the roofed facility will not only be for playing basketball, volleyball, table tennis, and chess, but also so that the neighbors of the sector, under the supervision and consent of the directors of that educational center, can carry out various types of community activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alberto Rodr\u00edguez Mella was accompanied by the deputy director general of Inefi, Elvis Duarte; the administrative and financial advisor, C\u00e9sar Ruiz; the cabinet director of Inefi, Cristian Hern\u00e1ndez, and the president of the Council of Councilors, Giancarlo Vega.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present were the regional director 15 of Education, Eddy Ch\u00e1vez; the spokesperson for the National Police, Diego Pesqueira; the president of the Fe y Alegr\u00eda Foundation, Amauri F\u00e9lix, and the councilman for Constituency 1, Juan L\u00f3pez, among others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delivered and constructed works<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During Alberto Rodr\u00edguez Mella’s administration at Inefi, at least 6 sports centers and covered sports facilities have been built and delivered in different regions of the country, in addition to renovating more than 31 school courts and maintaining other projects in the process of execution. Some examples are as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

El\u00edas Pi\u00f1a: First covered sports facility delivered in the southern region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

San Juan de la Maguana: School gymnasium recently delivered in the province.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National District (Capotillo Neighborhood): Covered court and sports facility completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monte Plata (Bayaguana, Yamas\u00e1): Includes the sports center at the General Eusebio Manzueta Polytechnic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Santiago and San Pedro de Macor\u00eds: Units delivered within the school infrastructure<\/a> plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
