Crimes committed by minors increased by 22.8% in Panama during the first<\/a> semester of 2026<\/strong>. Between January and June, the Superior Adolescent Prosecutor’s Offices received 2,475 complaints<\/strong>, 460 more than the 2,015<\/strong> reported in the same period of 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Cases related to sexual freedom and integrity<\/strong> topped the statistics with 875 complaints<\/strong>, followed by crimes against life and personal integrity<\/strong>, with 483<\/strong>; crimes against economic assets, with 453; crimes against collective security, with 357<\/strong>; and crimes against the family legal order and civil status<\/strong>, with 257<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The figures released by the Public Ministry show that the increase was widespread across almost the entire country. The province of Panama<\/strong> concentrated the highest number of complaints with 640 cases<\/strong>, followed by Panama Oeste<\/strong>, with 433<\/strong>; Chiriqui<\/strong>, with 377<\/strong>; Bocas del Toro<\/strong>, with 255<\/strong>; San Miguelito<\/strong>, with 165<\/strong>; Colon<\/strong>, with 161<\/strong>; Veraguas<\/strong>, with 140<\/strong>; Cocle<\/strong>, with 110<\/strong>; Herrera<\/strong>, with 85<\/strong>; Los Santos<\/strong>, with 57<\/strong>; and Darien<\/strong>, with 52<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cases also increased in Col\u00f3n, Herrera, San Miguelito, and Dari\u00e9n, while Cocl\u00e9<\/strong> and Los Santos<\/strong> maintained exactly the same number of complaints as in 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>The growth was also evident when analyzing the evolution of the main crimes. Reports of crimes against sexual freedom and integrity<\/strong> increased from 385 to 875<\/strong>, which represents 490 additional cases<\/strong> in just one year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crimes against life and personal integrity<\/strong> rose from 205 to 483<\/strong>, while crimes against economic assets<\/strong> grew from 256 to 453<\/strong>. Likewise, crimes against collective security<\/strong> went from 230 to 357<\/strong>, and those related to the family legal order and civil status<\/strong> increased from 91 to 257<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The increase in complaints<\/strong> also had an impact on judicial activity. During the first semester of this year, the Superior Adolescent Prosecutor’s Offices participated in 4,100 hearings<\/strong>, compared to the 3,461<\/strong> held during the same period of 2025.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigations into crimes attributed to minors increased in most of the country’s provinces compared to the first half of 2025. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the most frequent actions were 1,037 hearings before compliance judges<\/strong>, 467 unnamed hearings<\/strong>, 443<\/strong> arraignment hearings, 295 sentence readings<\/strong>, and 272 plea agreement hearings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding precautionary measures, the Public Prosecutor’s Office reported 328<\/strong> during the semester. Of these, 175 corresponded to provisional detention<\/strong> and 153 to other measures other than deprivation of liberty<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In contrast, during the same period of 2025, 516 precautionary measures<\/strong> had been applied, of which 133 were provisional detentions<\/strong> and 383 were measures other than detention<\/strong>, which reflects a change in the composition of the precautionary decisions adopted by the judges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Statistics also show an increase in final discharged cases<\/strong>, which went from 1,377<\/strong> in the first semester of 2025 to 1,601<\/strong> this year. The most used mechanism continued to be the opportunity criterion by prosecutor’s resolution<\/strong>, with 868 cases<\/strong>, followed by 285 cases concluded by judgment<\/strong>, 253 declinations to the administrative sphere, 53 dismissals<\/strong>, and 49 conciliations<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Investigations into crimes against life and economic assets also recorded significant growth compared to 2025. Archive<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding judgments, between January and June 2026, 305 rulings<\/strong> were issued, compared to 236<\/strong> in the same period of the previous year. The majority were resolved through plea agreements<\/strong>, with 258 sentences<\/strong>, while 25<\/strong> corresponded to simplified proceedings and 14<\/strong> were the result of oral trials.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, of the 348 sentences<\/strong> classified by type of ruling, 346 were convictions<\/strong> and only two were acquittals<\/strong>, equivalent to a 99% conviction rate<\/strong>. In the first semester of 2025, 247 sentences<\/a> had been recorded, of which 241 were convictions<\/strong> and six were acquittals<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
