Caracas .-<\/strong> <\/strong>Civil Protection (PC)<\/a> of Venezuela denied this Thursday the recent report of the discovery of survivors in La Guaira, the state most affected by the recent earthquakes, after versions circulated on social media about people found alive, nearly a month after the double earthquake of June 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The information disseminated during the early hours of this July 23, regarding alleged rescues of survivors in the OPP26 structure of La Guaira state, is false,” indicated PC in a statement released by the Ministry of Communication on Telegram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, the institution added that any information regarding the development of operations related to the earthquake will be “communicated in a timely, transparent, and exclusive manner through official media and spokespersons.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For its part, the National Union of Press Workers (SNTP) of Venezuela called for “responsibility in the handling of information, especially in emergency situations,” after “messages circulated that presented as a confirmed fact the alleged discovery of survivors.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This episode reminds us of the importance of distinguishing between an operational alert, a hypothesis in the process of verification, and a confirmed fact. Sharing rumors or speculation as if they were information creates false expectations, deepens the pain of families, and affects the work of those who remain on the ground,” stated the SNTP on its X account.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the early hours of this Thursday, several people reported that there were signs of life at the OPP26 residential complex in La Guaira, during live broadcasts on TikTok, although no government authority confirmed it publicly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thousands of users were connected to these broadcasts, which showed a crowd of people, including National Police officers and rescue groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last person rescued in Venezuela was the security guard Hern\u00e1n Gil on July 2nd, after eight days under the rubble, according to the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least 5,398 people have died following the recent earthquakes in Venezuela, while the number of injured remains at 16,740, according to official figures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Government of Venezuela called on Thursday for families who have not yet found their children and adolescents, following the double earthquake, to undergo verification tests to identify 38 bodies that remain in the morgue set up at the port of La Guaira.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Venezuelan NGO Cofavic urged authorities this Thursday to follow international standards for the recovery and identification of human remains, following the devastating earthquakes nearly a month ago, which have left 5,398 dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
