Louis and requested that the case be tried by a jury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The judge did not set a new date for the proceedings, nor were potential bail applications discussed.<br><br>Recommen<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-el-proceso-contra-alex-saab-en-estados-unidos\">The case against Alex Saab in the United States<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Saab, born in Colombia 54 years ago, had already appeared in court for the first time on May 18, two days after he was deported from Venezuela to the United States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Considered a close ally of Maduro, Saab had previously faced money laundering charges in the United States. After he was detained in Cape Verde in 2020 and extradited to U.S. territory, he was released in 2023 during the Joe Biden administration (2021-2025) as part of a prisoner swap with Venezuela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Subsequently, he returned to Caracas, where he was appointed Minister of Industries and National Production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His deportation to the United States took place after the U.S. operation on January 3rd that led to the capture in Caracas of Maduro, who remains in New York facing charges related to drug trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores appeared this Wednesday in a New York federal court where the judge in charge proposed that the trial begin in June 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Miami.- Venezuelan former minister and Colombian businessman Alex Saab pleaded &#8220;not guilty&#8221; this Friday to money laundering and other charges, through his lawyers, during a court hearing in Miami (USA) which he did not attend.
