Buenos Aires.-<\/strong> Argentine President Javier Milei accused the Brazilian government this Sunday of financing<\/a> a campaign against Argentina deployed on social media during the World Cup, hours after the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled its ambassador to Argentina for consultations due to the insults the president made on Saturday against the President of Brazil, Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Do you know who put the most money into this anti-Argentina campaign? The Brazilian government, 25% of the resources came from there,” Milei denounced in an interview with Radio Mitre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president referred to a series of criticisms against Argentina deployed on social media, from the alleged help in refereeing during the World Cup, to the support of Israeli government officials for the national team, including the accusation that Argentina is a racist country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Today Argentina is an emblem of freedom, that is why there was all that media attack, because we are becoming the beacon of the West, (…) we are putting in check the policies of these crooks (thieves) who hide behind the ‘present State’ to steal from good people,” the president stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milei’s statements came hours after Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs recalled its ambassador to Argentina, Julio Bitelli, for the insults made on Saturday against President Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva during the proclamation of Fl\u00e1vio Bolsonaro’s candidacy for the October elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During his speech at the Liberal Party (PL) convention, Milei lashed out at the Brazilian president, whom he accused of being a “thief” and of “spreading socialism” in Latin America, as well as leading Brazil toward a fiscal crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
