Bogot\u00e1, Colombia.- <\/strong>Education<\/a>, peace, and the guarantee of children’s rights highlighted the discussion “Children have the floor: For a country within reach of children and adolescents,” held within the framework of the Gabo Festival 2026, where children and adolescents from different regions of Colombia engaged in dialogue with high-ranking justice sector authorities about the country they wish to build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by Gabriel Garc\u00eda M\u00e1rquez’s historic speech “For a country within the reach of children,” the meeting promoted an open conversation between Colombian children and representatives of the country’s main judicial institutions, with the purpose of reflecting on the role of the new generations in building a more just, equitable society that guarantees human rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the day, the results of the national consultation “The country of my dreams” were also presented, promoted by the Ni\u00f1ezYA coalition, in which nearly 2,000 children and adolescents participated, sharing their aspirations, concerns, and proposals regarding the country they wish to live in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel was composed of the President of the Supreme Court of Justice, Iv\u00e1n Mauricio Lenis G\u00f3mez; the President of the Constitutional Court, Paola Andrea Meneses Mosquera; the Attorney General of the Nation, Luz Adriana Camargo Garz\u00f3n; and the journalist and editor of Alharaca Story Lab, Ginna Morelo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her speech, the president of the Constitutional Court, Paola Andrea Meneses Mosquera, highlighted that education must become the foundation for transforming society and ensuring that children are the center of public policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Education must be within a culture where we know that the country must be within reach of children; it cannot be an education that constrains or forces, but rather an education that puts the country within reach of children,” stated the magistrate.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Meneses maintained that moving towards restorative justice requires transforming social practices through education and pedagogy, involving the entire society in the formation of new generations committed to coexistence and respect for rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If we work on those changes in social cultures, we will most certainly be on the path to a justice that moves towards restoration, supported by the pedagogy and education we need to continue building the country,” he added.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The discussion served as a space for children to directly express their concerns about violence, peace, climate change, and the need to be heard by decision-makers, reaffirming that children and adolescents not only represent the future of Colombia, but also its present.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
