The hospital said the girls are monozygotic quadruplets, meaning a single fertilized egg split into four embryos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mother, 34-year-old Jenitar Na&#8217;amoana, and her husband, Jortham, were already parents of four children and were &#8220;enormously surprised&#8221; to learn they were expecting quadruplets, according to the hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dr. Alexa Bendall, an obstetrician and maternal-fetal medicine specialist who cared for Na&#8217;amoana throughout her pregnancy, estimated that naturally conceived identical quadruplets occur in about one in 15 million pregnancies.
