Lima.- <\/strong>The president-elect of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, announced this Monday that the first vice president, Luis Galarreta, will assume the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) of her government, which will take office this Tuesday in the Andean country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elected ruler also reported that the Ministry of Economy and Finance will be headed by economist Elmer Cuba and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs by lawyer, journalist and former presidential candidate Carlos Esp\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Fujimori announced it, Galarreta thanked “the trust to lead” the first cabinet of the new Government and said that one of his main missions will be to “confront citizen insecurity,” as well as to “return to growth with investments, generate employment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The vice president and secretary general of the Fujimorist party Fuerza Popular pointed out that another of the Government’s objectives will be “to make people trust their authorities again” and that he will assume the position “with absolute responsibility, with a great desire to move the country forward.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also ratified his intention to engage in dialogue with the various political and social sectors and to “meet the clear goals” of his administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fujimori added, immediately, that the Ministry of Economy and Finance will be in charge of Elmer Cuba, whom she considered “one of the most recognized and influential economists in the country” and recalled that he was a director of the Central Reserve Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president-elect maintained that Cuba’s “clear mission” will be “to restore stability, confidence, and growth” to the Peruvian economy and that “the most important thing is that this growth translates into jobs, poverty reduction, and more opportunities for all citizens.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cuba indicated, in turn, that it accepted the position to implement the “economic reforms that have been awaited all century” to “steer the country toward development.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He maintained that the goal for the coming years will be for the economic growth that Peru is experiencing to “arrive in the form of better jobs, remuneration” and that they are also going “to close infrastructure gaps.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fujimori also confirmed that he has decided to appoint the lawyer, journalist, and right-wing former presidential candidate Carlos Esp\u00e1 as Minister of Foreign Affairs, with the intention of “strengthening Peru’s presence in the world.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esp\u00e1 assured that he is “very happy, very grateful for the opportunity to contribute to putting the State at the service of the people of Peru, especially the most humble, and secondly, to contribute to the reconciliation of all Peruvians”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
