Washington.-<\/strong> U.S. President Donald Trump <\/a>urged the Republican Senate majority leader on Monday to prevent the chamber from suspending its activity during the August recess until the ‘Save America’ bill is passed. The electoral reform aims to tighten voting requirements ahead of the November midterm elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJohn Thune should not allow the U.S. Senate to \u2018recess\u2019 until they pass the Save America Act or, even better, until they eliminate the filibuster; that way, Republicans could quickly pass everything they have always dreamed of,\u201d Trump wrote in a message on Truth Social.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trump has been pressuring Senate Republicans for weeks to pass the Save America Act, even though Thune has acknowledged that his party does not currently have the necessary votes to push the initiative forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project has sparked opposition from the Democratic Party and civil rights organizations. The reform could leave millions of Americans without the right to vote by requiring proof of citizenship and a photo ID in a country where there is no mandatory national identity card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The future of the project<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

After its approval last March in the House of Representatives, the bill is stuck in the Senate, where Republicans have so far failed to secure the 60 votes needed \u2013 as they only hold 53 seats \u2013 two weeks before the start of the August recess.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president took the opportunity to lash out at the Democratic opposition, whom he once again disparagingly called “Dumocrats”.
“Remember, stupidity always brings defeat and death,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
