SANTO DOMINGO.<\/strong> The Dominican Republic continued to expand its medal haul at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026<\/strong>, by winning one silver and three bronze medals in judo, in addition to a bronze in bowling and another silver in rowing during this Monday’s session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In judo<\/strong>, Jaime Nova<\/strong> took home the silver medal<\/strong> in the +100 kilogram<\/strong> category, after advancing to the final with an ippon victory over the Mexican Sergio del Sol<\/strong>. In the gold medal match, he fell to the Cuban Andy Granda<\/strong>, thus adding the third Central American medal of his career, following the silver obtained in Barranquilla 2018 and the bronze won in San Salvador 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bronze<\/strong> medals were secured by Eiraima Silvestre<\/strong> and Moira Morillo<\/strong>. Silvestre, in the -78 kilogram<\/strong> category, began the competition with an ippon victory in just 12 seconds over the Venezuelan Zunilda Ch\u00e1vez<\/strong>, advanced to the semifinals, and secured third place by defeating the Mexican Liliana C\u00e1rdenas<\/strong> by yuko.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For her part, Morillo won the bronze in the +78 kilogram<\/strong> division. After falling in her first match to Venezuelan Karen Le\u00f3n<\/strong>, she recovered in the repechage with an ippon victory over Salvadoran Camila Rugamas<\/strong> and sealed the medal by defeating Bahamian Hanna Karra<\/strong>, also by ippon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In bowling<\/strong>, Alejandro Prats<\/strong> won the bronze medal<\/strong> in the singles event by knocking down 1,402 pins<\/strong> in six games. The experienced athlete expressed that the medal has a special meaning, as he had come close to the podium in two previous editions of the Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, in rowing<\/strong>, Ignacio V\u00e1squez<\/strong> added a new silver medal<\/strong> for the Dominican delegation by finishing second in the men’s single sculls<\/strong> event, with a time of 7:25.69<\/strong>. This is his second medal at Santo Domingo 2026, following the silver obtained alongside Carlos Rodr\u00edguez<\/strong> in the lightweight men’s double sculls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
