class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Santo Domingo.- <\/strong>The Fuerza del Pueblo party questioned this Tuesday that the Government attributes exclusively to its administration the recognition from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which places the Dominican Republic among the countries with a prevalence of undernourishment of less than 2.5%, considering that this result is the response to a process spanning several decades and not just the policies implemented by the current administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During a press conference, the head of the organization&#8217;s Secretariat for the Implementation of Social Policies, Onofre Rojas, stated that, although the country has reached the \u201cZero Hunger\u201d goal, the Government omits other indicators from the same report that, in his view, reflect a different reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rojas maintained that the report also points out that 41.3% of the Dominican population experiences moderate or severe food insecurity, which is equivalent to nearly 4.7 million people facing difficulties in accessing adequate food due to the high cost of food or limitations in their income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The political leader also criticized the import policies promoted by the Executive Branch, citing Law 6-22, which, according to him, allowed the massive entry of agricultural products with a zero rate, affecting national producers of rice, onions, garlic, beans, eggs, pork, and other items.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the People&#8217;s Force (Fuerza del Pueblo), these measures have caused economic losses for thousands of small and medium-sized producers, in addition to an increase in dependence on imports and less support for the agricultural sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We recommend reading:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the appearance, Rojas also asserted that the accumulated inflation between 2021 and 2025, especially in the food and beverage group, has increased the cost of the basic food basket, which, he stated, limits the purchasing power of Dominican households despite the subsidy programs implemented by the Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The political organization argued that the reduction in undernourishment is the result of public policies developed over the last 30 years, noting that the indicator fell from 24.5% in 1996 to 8.7% in 2020, before continuing to decline during the current administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finally, the People&#8217;s Force called on the Government to review and reformulate public policies aimed at strengthening food security, with greater support for national production and, in particular, the agricultural sector, to guarantee sustainable access to food for the
