Lima .- <\/strong>The president-elect of Peru, Keiko Fujimori<\/a>, announced possible agreements and progress in cooperation with several allies in the region within the framework of her inauguration this Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The president and the president of Bolivia, Rodrigo Paz, envision a “great potential for cooperation” between both countries, during a meeting held in Lima before the inauguration of the daughter and political heir of former president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the meeting held at the Torre Tagle Palace, headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, in Lima, Fujimori and Paz highlighted the bicentennial of diplomatic relations between the two countries, celebrated this 2026, as detailed by the Peruvian Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also agreed to highlight the “traditional ties of neighborhood and brotherhood” and recognize “the broad agenda of issues of common interest, the status of neighboring countries, and the great potential for cooperation.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>“Total willingness to consolidate dialogue” between Peru and Chile<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Fujimori and the president of Chile, Jos\u00e9 Antonio Kast, reiterated this Tuesday in Lima their “total willingness to consolidate high-level dialogue” between their countries<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fujimori, who assumes the Peruvian head of state position this Tuesday, met with Kast at the headquarters of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the historic center of Lima, together with the designated Peruvian Foreign Minister, Carlos Esp\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, both authorities also expressed their willingness to “move forward together in the face of shared challenges” between their countries, Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted in a message published on the social network X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the challenges mentioned are transnational organized crime, natural disasters, public transport, and reforestation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Agreement for Peru and Ecuador to cooperate against organized crime<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

While in the meeting with the president of Ecuador, Daniel Noboa, Fujimori agreed to cooperate against transnational organized crime and share experiences on prison management, during a meeting in Lima prior to the inauguration of the daughter and political heir of former president Alberto Fujimori (1990-2000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meeting, Fujimori and Noboa reaffirmed their willingness to continue deepening the bilateral relationship between both countries on the basis of the peace agreements signed in 1998 that put an end to a long border conflict that led to several wars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both the president-elect of Peru and the Ecuadorian leader highlighted “the dynamic political dialogue achieved in the binational cabinets,” annual meetings between the leaders and their respective ministers to advance the bilateral agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that sense, they agreed that the next binational cabinet between Peru and Ecuador will be held at the end of the year in Lima, as reported by the Peruvian Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noboa also traveled to Peru with the intention of advancing the high-voltage electrical interconnection between both countries, a project that is already underway on the Peruvian side and must be contracted this year on the Ecuadorian side to provide greater energy security to Ecuador, which has experienced several periods of electricity rationing since 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peru and Colombia ratify the sending of ambassadors
For their part, Fujimori and the president-elect of Colombia, Jos\u00e9 Manuel Restrepo, ratified this Tuesday in Lima the decision of their countries’ governments to restore full diplomatic relations with the reciprocal appointment of ambassadors in Lima and Bogot\u00e1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decision was announced during a meeting that Fujimori held together with his designated foreign minister, Carlos Esp\u00e1, with the mission sent by the president-elect of Colombia, Abelardo de la Espriella, for this Tuesday’s inauguration in Peru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the meeting, which was held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the historic center of Lima, “it was agreed upon the importance of strengthening the bilateral relationship and raising the level of representation in both countries through the appointment of ambassadors,” the Peruvian Foreign Ministry indicated on the social network X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peru and Colombia agreed in March 2025 to relaunch their bilateral relations, which had been interrupted since 2023 following the removal of leftist president Pedro Castillo and his replacement by conservative Dina Boluarte, but they had not yet finalized the appointment of their ambassadors since then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fujimori and Milei to seek to strengthen economic cooperation
Meanwhile, Keiko Fujimori and the President of Argentina, Javier Milei, highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in strategic areas such as the economy and security, hours before the right-wing leader is inaugurated as president of the Andean country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Peruvian Foreign Ministry reported on social media that the meeting between both authorities took place at the Torre Tagle Palace, one of the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Lima.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The meeting highlighted the deep historical ties between both countries, as well as the importance of strengthening bilateral cooperation in strategic areas such as the economy, security, science, technology, and innovation,” added the Peruvian Executive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fujimori and Orsi will promote an agenda focused on the fight against crime<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the meeting with the president of Uruguay, Yamand\u00fa Orsi, Fujimori agreed to promote an agenda focused on the fight against organized crime, in a meeting held in Lima before the presidential inauguration of the right-wing leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting took place at the Torre Tagle Palace, the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Peru, in Lima. Fujimori and Asfura highlight boost to bilateral dialogue through appointment of ambassadors<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Peruvian president and the president of Honduras, Nasry \u2018Tito\u2019 Asfura, highlighted this Tuesday in Lima the boost to bilateral dialogue that the appointment of ambassadors between their countries has signified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peru and Honduras gave their reciprocal approval last March to normalize their diplomatic relations with the reinstatement of ambassadors, following the 2023 withdrawal of the then-Peruvian representative in the Central American nation for not recognizing the legitimacy of then-President Dina Boluarte (2022-2025).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fujimori received Asfura at the headquarters of the Peruvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the historic center of Lima, shortly before the inauguration ceremony is held at the Legislative Palace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the meeting, in which the designated Peruvian Foreign Minister, Carlos Esp\u00e1, also participated, it was highlighted “the recent momentum in the bilateral dialogue, achieved through the appointment of ambassadors in both countries,” the local Foreign Ministry highlighted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that both dignitaries “also committed to sharing experiences on port management”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The President of Panama is confident in “dusting off” the free trade agreement with Peru<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, the President of Panama, Jos\u00e9 Ra\u00fal Mulino, declared this Tuesday his country’s interest in “dusting off” the Free Trade Agreement with Peru, which was signed in 2006 and entered into force in 2012, after meeting with the President-elect of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, minutes before her inauguration in Congress and in the presence of a dozen leaders from the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mulino said he is leaving “very optimistic about this new momentum in the bilateral relationship,” after meeting with Fujimori at the Foreign Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
