The use of drones to transport medicine<\/strong> in hard-to-reach areas has positioned Panama<\/strong><\/a> as a pioneer on the continent<\/strong>, an internationally recognized initiative promoted with the support of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>This strategy has made it possible to bring supplies to traditionally underserved communities<\/strong>, marking an advance in national health coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The interoperability of information systems, telemedicine, and electronic prescriptions are among the priorities<\/strong> that will facilitate access to health services in the most remote areas. The Pan-American Digital Health Route Conference (PH4H)<\/strong> made it clear that technology can be the tool that transforms the healthcare experience for thousands of people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Recently, the country hosted PH4H<\/strong>, an event that brought together authorities and experts from the region to discuss digital transformation in healthcare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, organized by the Inter-American Development Bank<\/strong> and the Pan American Health Organization<\/strong> with the support of the Embassy of Japan<\/strong>, highlighted the challenges and achievements reached in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/a>Technology will be the instrument that will allow reaching the most remote communities, assured the Minister of Health of Panama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the inauguration, Minister Fernando Boyd Galindo emphasized that digitalization is key to strengthening primary care<\/strong> and ensuring services for those residing in remote areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPrimary care is going to be the solution to many of the health problems<\/strong> of our population and technology will be the instrument that will allow us to reach the most remote communities,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digital transformation in healthcare, according to the head of the ministry, will allow care centers and health posts to be connected,<\/strong> facilitating remote consultations, artificial intelligence-assisted diagnoses, and interoperable electronic prescriptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He anticipated that, before the end of the year, communities will be able to communicate with medical centers<\/strong>, receive professional guidance, and access medications near their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the activity, the Pan American Digital Health Roadmap<\/strong> was presented as the most sustainable cooperation project between the IDB and PAHO in the last decade.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The central objective of the PH4H<\/strong> is to build people-centered health, through interoperable data and the secure exchange of information between countries.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the promoted tools are the international patient summary<\/strong>, digital vaccination certificates, and interoperable electronic prescriptions, all under common standards and shared regulatory frameworks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ambassador of Japan to Panama,<\/strong> Kazuyoshi Matsunaga<\/strong>, reaffirmed during the activity his country’s support for the initiative and recalled that technology only acquires true value<\/strong> when it improves people’s lives<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matsunaga highlighted that the PH4H not only connects medical information<\/strong>, but also unites countries and people to strengthen universal health coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
