Mexico<\/strong>.- Amidst music, applause, the aromas of bread and various ingredients, and a crowd waiting with plates in hand, the traditional International Torta Fair in the Mexican capital turned its annual celebration into a global event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Venustiano Carranza borough of Mexico City, measuring one hundred meters long and weighing 1.5 tons, the preparation earned a Guinness World Record, being recognized in the category as the largest sandwich in portions in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dozens of sandwich makers worked in a line on long tables on the esplanade of the borough, wearing hairnets, face masks, and gloves, while the public waited in anticipation and the presenter narrated the progress of each section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ham, breaded cutlet, sausage, beans, chistorra, mole, seafood, carnitas (pork), vegetables, and meats like wild boar were part of more than fifty varieties gathered in a single piece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expectation grew as the cake was divided into blocks to be moved to the scale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weigh-in, supervised under hygiene protocols and in front of observers, delayed the confirmation and kept thousands of attendees focused on the stage, amidst songs, drinks, and musical performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Upon announcing the result, the Guinness World Records adjudicator in Mexico, Alfredo Arista, welcomed those responsible to the organization’s \u201cfamily\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs of today you are ‘officially amazing’<\/strong>\u201d, proclaimed Arista.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The recognition marked a new point for a fair that is celebrating its twenty-first edition and that every year transforms the esplanade into a celebration of popular gastronomy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, the gathering prepared a cake of 76 meters and nearly 950 kilos; in 2025 it reached ninety meters, but this was the first occasion in which it obtained the Guinness World Records certification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mario Bustos, representative of Tortas Selectas Chalco and a participant for more than fifteen years, described the excitement of working within the preparation line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere are no words. It is a wonderful thing, a beautiful thing to live this experience,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Diner Ana Laura Ortega Ram\u00edrez left her activities to attend the inauguration and try a portion of milanesa, quesillo, and sausage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It’s once a year. So it’s like giving yourself a space to try the delights they offer us,” he said as he continued the distribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than ninety exhibitors are participating during the five days of the meeting<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayor Evelyn Parra explained that the record depended on the weight and not the assembly time, as in previous editions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parra also highlighted the participation of exhibitors from different Mexican states and from countries such as Colombia, Argentina, Venezuela, Spain, the Dominican Republic, and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head of Government of the capital, Clara Brugada, stated that the fair strengthens the local economy and recalled that there are about 10,000 businesses dedicated to tortas operating in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the weighing, the tables were once again filled with knives and trays. The record-breaking piece ended up being distributed among the public, to the rhythm of the music that turned this year’s wait into a global celebration in the capital of Mexico. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
