Santo Domingo<\/strong>.- The death by drowning of Dominican actor Stuart Ort\u00edz in the Cueva Virgen, located in the Aguas Locas sector of Santo Domingo East, has reopened the debate regarding the risks and the need to strengthen surveillance in natural spaces that are increasingly gaining popularity through social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cenotes are geological formations created by the collapse of the roofs of ancient limestone caves, leaving bodies of groundwater exposed. In the Dominican Republic, they are part of an extensive system of caverns and underground rivers that, in many cases, have not yet been fully explored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was precisely in the Cueva Virgen where Stuart Ortiz lost his life while performing a dive. The National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) determined that the death occurred due to drowning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, during a tour conducted by De \u00daltimo Minuto in the three caves of the Aguas Locas sector, no presence of authorities was observed in any of the spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to local residents, park rangers work from approximately 8:00 in the morning to 3:00 in the afternoon, which leaves long periods without surveillance and facilitates the entry of people into restricted areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The situation highlights that the available personnel continues to be insufficient to permanently supervise these natural spaces and prevent access to areas considered high-risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of the contents omit information about the depth of the caves, access restrictions, and the risks associated with these types of ecosystems, which can create a false perception of safety among those visiting them for the first time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
