Azua.<\/strong> The Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of Azua imposed three months of preventive detention this Thursday against the sergeant of the Dominican Republic Air Force (FARD), Mariely Figuereo, charged with the death of her mother-in-law, Rosa Marte, known as “Rosita”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The coercive measure must be served at the Najayo Women’s Correction and Rehabilitation Center (CCR), while the Public Prosecutor’s Office concludes the investigations and presents the formal indictment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the decision was made known, the victim’s family lawyer described the measure as a first step in the pursuit of justice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is the first achievement we have conquered here in the province of Azua so that Mariely Figuereo pays for the act committed. We made a commitment to the family of Mrs. Rosa Marte and that is what we are doing,” he expressed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jurist indicated that investigations are ongoing to determine if there was participation by other individuals in the crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“During those three months, the investigation continues. The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the corresponding agencies are continuing their inquiries, so we will continue working to ensure that the full weight of the law is applied,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the defendant’s version, the lawyer stated that Mariely Figuereo pleaded not guilty during the hearing, although he maintained that she had previously admitted her responsibility in the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“She spoke and said that she was innocent. However, we also know that she confessed that she had murdered Mrs. Rosa Marte,” he stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For their part, representatives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office valued the court’s decision, considering that pretrial detention will allow for strengthening the investigation and gathering the necessary evidence to support the accusation against the defendant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
