Santo Domingo.-<\/strong> The Electricity Distribution Company of the East (Edeeste<\/strong>) urged its customers to use electrical energy efficiently during these months of increasing heat, as a way to address the rise in consumption due to high temperatures, families spending more time at home, and the continuous use of air conditioning equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edeeste explained that, between the months of May and September, various factors combine that directly impact electricity consumption, such as high temperatures and the heat index, intensified by the effects of climate change experienced in the Dominican Republic, which force equipment such as air conditioners, fans, and refrigerators to remain on for longer periods and work with greater intensity to maintain adequate comfort conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In that same vein, the distributor indicated that this reality is compounded by the school vacation period, when children, adolescents, and other family members spend more hours at home, increasing the use of televisions, computers, tablets, video game consoles, microwaves, air fryers, and other everyday appliances. Likewise, the refrigerator is opened more frequently, which demands additional effort from the unit to recover its internal temperature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Edeeste specified that these changes in consumption habits explain why, even when a family keeps the same appliances, they may experience an increase in energy consumption and, consequently, in the billed amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company reiterated that the electricity rate is established exclusively by the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE), in accordance with the current tariff scale, which has not been modified since 2021. In this regard, it clarified that any variations that may be recorded in billing during this time of year are mainly due to increased consumption and, in some cases, to a change in the tariff block when the corresponding limit is exceeded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recommendations to reduce consumption<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of its commitment to energy education, Edeeste recommends that its customers adopt habits that allow for optimizing consumption without affecting the well-being of the home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The electric company cited among the main recommendations keeping the air conditioning between 23 and 25 degrees Celsius; turning off electrical equipment when not in use; avoiding leaving televisions, fans, and air conditioners on in unoccupied rooms; opening the refrigerator only for the necessary time; unplugging chargers and equipment not in use, periodically checking internal electrical installations to ensure their proper functioning, among other actions considered by families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, Edeeste highlighted that the incorporation of these practices can contribute significantly to reducing monthly consumption and help users stay within their corresponding tariff range, favoring more efficient billing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the handling of complaints<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Edeeste pointed out that it keeps its commercial offices available to address any concerns related to service billing. In cases where a customer believes there is an inconsistency, they may formally file a claim, in accordance with the established procedure, by making a payment of 33% of the billed amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Subsequently, the company performs the corresponding technical inspections to verify the reliability of the billing or the favorability of the client. If the process determines that the claim is valid, the client receives the corresponding adjustment or refund in the following invoices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, the company reminded that, if a user is not satisfied with the decision issued by the distributor, current regulations allow them to go to the Office for the Protection of Electricity Consumers (Protecom), a dependency of the Superintendency of Electricity (SIE), an agency that follows up on cases and communicates its decision through institutional channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
