Spain<\/strong>.- A chaotic Thursday was experienced at the Tarajal border that separates Spain from Morocco. The uncontrolled arrival of countless immigrants to the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta left at least 18 dead and dramatic scenes, which have provoked multiple international reactions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police sources indicated to the Madrid newspaper El Pa\u00eds that security forces have recovered the bodies of 18 people who were attempting to swim into Ceuta, during the massive influx of people coming from Morocco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the last year, more than 60 people have died at sea. Although the migratory flow had been increasing in recent days, the peak occurred this Thursday, with several dramatic scenes. In several videos, it can be seen how hundreds of people cross by swimming and using floats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Numerous people broke through the police cordon that had been placed in El Tarajal, on the Spanish side, according to the Europa Press agency. Once they overcame this obstacle, they managed to enter Ceuta, a town bathed by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Civil Guard estimates that up to 40,000 people could have entered Ceuta irregularly, according to local press reports. So far, there is no official figure. The President of the Government himself, Pedro S\u00e1nchez, is expected to arrive at the location this Friday, from where he could provide an assessment of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Civil Guard was deployed to the southern border to cover this situation, the high number of foreigners, mostly young people according to reports, exceeded their capabilities. Upon recognizing that they were overwhelmed, the Government authorized military mobilization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Army was activated to support members of the Civil Guard, in one of the main measures taken by the Moncloa, which, however, has refused to declare a state of national emergency, as requested by the president of Ceuta, Juan Jes\u00fas Vivas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A video captured the words of a young man from Morocco who, upon entering Spain irregularly, shouted: “Long live Spain! Long live Pedro S\u00e1nchez!”. This occurred in the context of the irregular entry of about 2,000 people into European territory in recent days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With a climate of rising tension, various sectors criticized the recent regularization of migrants approved by the S\u00e1nchez Executive. However, government sources cited by RTVE assured that the crisis “has nothing to do<\/strong>” with that policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“It is false that no person who has crossed in recent days can qualify for this process, as it requires very specific criteria, such as proving residence in Spain before January 1, 2026, and having remained in Spain for 5 continuous months at the time of submitting the application,” they clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, dozens of Spaniards chased the migrants who entered Ceuta irregularly. In a video, which one of them recorded during the pursuit, the animosity against the foreigners is shown. “Invaders, sons of bitches!” they shouted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While tensions escalated in Ceuta, the chaotic day did not go unnoticed abroad. Although within the European Union (EU<\/a>) they offered Madrid to reinforce Frontex [the European Border and Coast Guard Agency], there have also been severe criticisms of its measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
