{"id":518957,"date":"2026-07-31T10:17:28","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T14:17:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.net\/en\/?p=518957"},"modified":"2026-07-31T10:17:34","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T14:17:34","slug":"thousands-cross-into-spains-ceuta-enclave-as-migration-crisis-escalates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/deultimominuto.com\/en\/international\/thousands-cross-into-spains-ceuta-enclave-as-migration-crisis-escalates\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands cross into Spain&#8217;s Ceuta enclave as migration crisis escalates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain&#8217;s North African enclave of <strong>Ceuta<\/strong> is facing an escalating migration crisis after tens of thousands of migrants crossed from Morocco within 24 hours, according to Ceuta&#8217;s regional government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Images circulating on social media showed a construction truck carrying dozens of migrants arriving near the border, where a Moroccan police officer appeared to organize and control their disembarkation before they continued toward the crossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ceuta President Juan Jes\u00fas Vivas said about <strong>60,000 migrants<\/strong> entered the enclave over a 24-hour period and that <strong>at least 34 people died<\/strong> during the crossing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The surge followed a ruling by Spain&#8217;s Supreme Court stating that migrants intercepted at sea while attempting to reach Ceuta or the Spanish enclave of Melilla cannot be summarily returned to Morocco.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spanish Prime Minister Pedro S\u00e1nchez described the situation as &#8220;an attack&#8221; on Spain&#8217;s territorial integrity and vowed that all migrants who entered the country illegally would be returned to Morocco as soon as possible.
