Tehran.-<\/strong> Iran warned this Saturday that it will tighten the closure of the Strait of Hormuz<\/strong> and could even block other maritime passages if the United States maintains the naval blockade<\/strong> on Iranian ports and vessels in the south of the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The continuation of the naval blockade and the war escalation by the US regime will reinforce the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and will also lead to the closure of other straits and choke points,” warned the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, as reported by the Tasnim agency, which is linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Zolgadr maintained that “the price of this will be paid by the global economy and the energy market,” alluding to the rise in crude oil prices due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of the world’s oil passed before the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, a senior Iranian security official, also cited by Tasnim, described as “madness” the reports disseminated by US media<\/strong> regarding possible attacks by the United States and Israel against Iranian infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We have prepared a comprehensive response plan that includes vital infrastructure of the Zionist regime (Israel) and the energy infrastructure of the United States in the region, and we are prepared to execute it,” he stated.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The official added that the Iranian Armed Forces “have demonstrated, both during the 40-day war and in its continuation over the last few weeks, that they have both the capacity and the will” to carry out those operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statements come amid a new escalation between Tehran and Washington following the breakdown of the memorandum of understanding reached between both parties in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Iran declared a new closure of the Strait of Hormuz on July 12<\/strong> in rejection of Oman’s opening of an alternative transit route south of the strait, to which the United States responded by re-establishing a naval blockade on Iranian ports and vessels, amidst crossfire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
